Hospitalist Gerard Kiernan, MD Receives Honorary Degrees

Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (CMC/DHK) is pleased to announce that Gerard Kiernan, MD has achieved the Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and in Hospital Medicine by the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM). Dr. Kiernan joined the CMC/DHK staff in 2002 in Family Medicine and transitioned to provide care for inpatients as a Hospitalist.

The Academy of Family Physicians is a national medical association representing nearly 115,900 family physicians, residents and medical students. The AAFP Degree of Fellow recognizes family physicians who have distinguished themselves through service to family medicine and ongoing professional development. Criteria for receiving the Degree of Fellow consist of a minimum of six years of membership in the organization, extensive continuing medical education, participation in public service programs outside medical practice, conducting original research and serving as a teacher in family medicine.

The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) is a professional medical society representing more than 13,000 of the 44,000 practicing hospitalists in the U.S. dedicated to providing exceptional care to hospitalized patients.  Those who earn the Fellow of Hospital Medicine (FHM) have demonstrated their commitment to hospital medicine, system change and quality improvement principles. Criteria for completion include a minimum of five years practicing as a hospitalist, endorsement by SHM peers and demonstrated experience in hospital medicine leadership, teamwork and quality improvement.
