The New Hampshire Nurses Association (NHNA) recently held an annual banquet in Concord to honor nominees and present The Direct Care Nurse of the Year award. This prestigious recognition is given to registered nurses who exemplify strength and passion as a professional nurse in clinical practice using best practice standards, patient advocacy and community involvement.

Alison Cuomo-Nason, RN, Emergency Department (ED) and Eleanor Cochrane, RN, Family Medicine Department at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (CMC/DHK) were honored at this event: Alison as recipient of the 2014 Direct Care Nurse of the Year and Eleanor as a nominee.

Alison has been caring for patients in the ED at CMC/DHK for more than 30 years, is a volunteer for the Greater Monadnock Medical Reserve Corps and is an active voice representing the nursing profession at the community, state and national levels. She actively supports reform and expansion of healthcare programs, women’s health and healthcare worker legislation and other efforts. Alison is described by peers as a caring, generous, respected and collaborative colleague, committed to making positive change.

Eleanor Cochrane, RN, Family Medicine Department, CMC/DHK was a nominee for this prestigious award. Eleanor has worked at CMC/DHK since 2005, first as a telephone triage nurse before assuming the role of the first Care Coordinator in the Family Medicine Department.  Her focus on patient centered care is exemplary and she strives to create an all encompassing circle of care for patients and families. Her collaborative work in developing COPD action plans and compassionate care with end-of-life conversations has defined her as a true patient advocate, innovator, and role model for colleagues.

CMC/DHK extends congratulations and thanks to Alison and Eleanor for their dedication to patients, their families and our community.
