Free Breathing Test November 21 at CMC/DHK

November 20, 2013
Keene, NH

In recognition of the Great American Smokeout on Thursday, November 21, Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (CMC/DHK), Breathe New Hampshire, and Home Healthcare Hospice and Community Services have partnered to offer free COPD screenings.

Former and current smokers, those who become short of breath easily or who cough a lot, or individuals over 40 years or older are welcomed to CMC/DHK’s 580-90 Court Street location in Auditorium A & B from 8 am to 2 pm for a free COPD screening. Free comfort kits will also be given and registration is not required. Additional sponsors for this event include: Cheshire Coalition for Tobacco Free Communities, Healthy Monadnock 2020, COPD Learn More Breath Better, Lincare, and Cape Medical Supply.

The Cheshire Coalition for Tobacco Free Communities is also offering a special Great American Smokeout Challenge for all worksites in Cheshire County. To participate in the CCTFC challenge, employers must be willing to make their properties tobacco-free during the hours of midnight November 21st through midnight November 22nd. In exchange for this commitment, the Coalition will give participating worksites free nicotine patches for each employee who may need help in becoming tobacco free for the day. In addition, worksites are offered a free information session for managers and employees to learn tips for staying tobacco free.

Most employers are aware that the State of New Hampshire’s Clean Indoor Air Act prohibits smoking and electronic cigarette use indoors. The Coalition encourages all worksites to take the extra step in limiting or prohibiting smoking on the grounds by creating a tobacco free “campus” policy and helping to improve the health and safety of employees.

The Cheshire Coalition for Tobacco Free Communities offers free support for anyone who wants to stop using tobacco through consultations, monthly support groups and informational sessions throughout the region.
