Vision 2020 Champions are community members who have made a commitment to live, share, model and inspire the values and goals of Vision 2020 in their own lives and share what they are learning about healthy lifestyle behaviors with their family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. When the Champions program was launched in October 2010, a goal was set to have 500 Champions in place within one year. Community response has been inspiring as nearly 950 people have signed on, with many new people joining each week. According to Linda Rubin, Director of the Healthy Community Initiative, the Champions are the heart of Vision 2020. "Champions believe that together we can live in the nation’s healthiest community," Rubin said. "Many are taking small steps to improve their own health and then sharing what they learn with others in their social networks".

The 2nd annual Breakfast with Champions event will celebrate the kickoff of the new Organizational Champions Program one year ago, boasting more than 70 organizations, with local businesses, civic groups, non-profits, clubs and coalitions apart of a grass-roots effort to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors and improve the health of our community. Champions who attend will participate in a worksite wellness training to help improve the health of their employees, staff, and members in support of our county becoming the healthiest in the nation. Organizations who have recently signed on include: Elm City Bagels & Deli, Fenton Family Dealerships, Hamshaw Lumber, Keene Swamp Bats, Monadnock Buy Local, Monadnock Family Services, Ted’s Shoe & Sport, the City of Keene, and the Monadnock Rotary Club.

The Healthiest Community Initiative is funded by the Cheshire Health Foundation and is designed to actively engage the citizens of Cheshire County in the journey to become the nation's healthiest community by 2020. The Champions program's emphasis is on encouraging individuals and groups to take greater responsibility for all aspects of their own health and to think also about the health of friends, family, co-workers and neighbors. Among the many goals of the Healthiest Community Initiative is an evolution of the local health care system to allow an increased focus on disease prevention and maintaining good health.
