A group of local women, who call their book club Margareaders, plotted a unique approach to their holiday giving this year -they pooled what they would have spent, on each other, to buy a gift for the patients of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center Kingsbury Pavilion at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth Hitchcock Keene.

The idea was inspired by one of their members receiving treatment for breast cancer at Kingsbury Pavilion. Their support of their friend, as she experiences the various stages of treatment and healing, increased their awareness about the challenges patients face, especially the long hours some may sit while receiving chemotherapy.  With her assistance, they aptly settled on the gift of story, in movie form, for patients of the Pavilion, agreeing to give one portable DVD player in honor of their friend and the strength she demonstrates as she begins a new life chapter as a survivor.

With their pool of cash more generous than expected, they kept their buying power a secret to surprise their friend.  Their gift to the patients of Kingsbury in her honor culminated with five portable DVD players and over 50 books!
