Remeline Damasco, MD, Internal Medicine/Family Medicine/Hospital Medicine physician at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (CMC/DHK), has been presented with the Dr. Frank Carter Physician Excellence Award. The award recognizes a Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene physician, nominated by his/her peers, in the first ten years of practicing medicine who exemplifies the admirable character and professional traits that Dr. Frank Carter embodied: dedication, honor, tenacity, courage, conviction, and humility.

"Since joining CMC/DHK three years ago, Dr. Damasco has immersed herself in our culture not only as an outstanding provider of care but also as a leader. Providing hospital coverage, her compassion has earned her high praise from patients and colleagues. In addition, she has participated in CMC/DHK's campus-wide community health initiatives and continues to serve as Team Leader of Family Medicine Team A. Outside of CMC/DHK, she provides medical care to patients at two clinics and the local jail." shares Don Caruso, MD, MPH, Medical Director, Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene, "Dr. Damasco is described by her patients and colleagues alike as 'the consummate professional' and the 'most caring and compassionate doctor they have had.'"

Dr. Frank Carter was the first primary care physician in a multidisciplinary group practice at the Keene Clinic, joining the clinic on January 1, 1960. He is remembered as a compassionate and wise caregiver, always putting his patients and their needs first. He was humble and unassuming, yet an outstanding role model for his colleagues. Dr. Carter passed away on June 2, 2012 and will be remembered for pioneering Primary Care at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene and setting healthcare standards which other medical providers emulate.

The Carter Fund for Innovation, Education and Excellence was established through a generous donation in memory of Dr. Frank Carter by his sister, Dr. Barbara Carter Moore in October 2012. A portion of the fund will be used as an honorarium for recipients of The Dr. Frank Carter Physician Excellence Award and the remaining funds will be available for projects and opportunities that enhance and support the Medical Home model of Primary Care at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene. Contributions to The Carter Fund for Innovation, Education and Excellence are accepted through The Cheshire Health Foundation.
