Arthur W. Nichols, president and CEO, Cheshire Health Foundation/Cheshire Medical Center, accepts a $20,000 donation from Joe Halliday. Joseph and Vivian Halliday of Spofford, NH, have made a founding $20,000 contribution to a new Cheshire Health Foundation fund called The Healthy Monadnock 2020 Fund. The fund, which is intended to serve as a new financial resource for community health improvement, refers to Healthy Monadnock 2020, a bold initiative planned by Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene to make Cheshire County the healthiest in the nation.

"Cheshire Medical Center is honored by the Hallidays' generosity," said Arthur W. Nichols, president and CEO, "this hospital was founded downtown and rebuilt on Court Street with the gifts of many generous members of this community—people who recognized the joy of philanthropy and who wanted to protect the health of the community. The Hallidays founding donation to this fund ushers in a new era—one in which we will once again be able to see and measure the impact of charitable gifts on the health of this city and the surrounding towns."

"I recently learned about the hospital’s plans to make this the healthiest community in the nation," said Joe Halliday. "We have been so pleased with the care provided by Cheshire Medical Center. We have lived in other places and we are truly fortunate to have a hospital of this caliber in our backyard. My wife and I decided that it was time for us to give back."

Currently, Cheshire Health Foundation finances a broad range of community health programs offered by Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene. The organization plans to increase its community health programs, most of which are offered free of charge and not covered by insurance. To offset the costs of these services, it plans to increase its endowment with philanthropic support from the community.

"My hope is that others will contribute to The Healhty Monadnock 2020 Fund to the extend they can," said Joe Halliday. "This is our community and it’s our obligation to help improve it. What better way than by making it the healthiest in the nation? That is something my wife Vivian (Bibsey) and I are proud to support."

Joe and Bibsey Halliday are inviting donors to participate in making this fund successful and invite others—individuals, corporations, or foundations—to join them in the Founder’s Circle as well.
