Champions Moment-June 2013
Pamela Blood lives in Keene and became a Champion in May 2013 at The Community Kitchen in Keene where she made the pledge to live, share, model and inspire the Vision 2020 initiative. Pam is a volunteer at The Community Kitchen in Keene where she helps package healthy meals for community members.
Pam became a Champion because she wants to eat healthier for both herself and her family. Pam spends much of her time helping others at the Community Kitchen in Keene where she volunteers her time helping package and organize healthy meal baskets for community members and families to take home. “I feel like a Champion when I am helping prepare and assemble healthy meal baskets for families so they can prepare and enjoy healthy and affordable meals at home”, Pam says. She also has been championing healthy eating in her community by talking to folks at the Community Kitchen encouraging them to make healthier choices and drink more water. She feels that as a Champion, this is something that she would personally like to work on and feels very strongly that eating healthy is very important as our community strives to become the healthiest by 2020.
In addition to volunteering at the Community Kitchen, Pam is an active participant in the Relay For Life of Greater Keene and has been for the past 5 years alongside friend and fellow Champion, Jen Ireland. Pam says that she feels like a champion when “she walks in the Relay for Life, both walking and spending time with her friends, fellow survivors and caregivers. “As a two time cancer survivor, I know I wouldn’t have been able to get through it without the help of my friends, family, and caregivers. Having a positive attitude really helped me get through the toughest times”, says Pam.
“Jen and I invite all Champions to join our team, “PJ’s Angels”, on June 21st-22nd, 2013 at Monadnock Regional High School as we walk to end cancer and raise awareness about what we can do to stay well from cancer. I plan to walk in this year’s Relay as I have in earlier years and also plan to walk as far as a marathon, 26.2 miles! Hope to see you there!”
