What to Bring to the Hospital
Below is a suggested list of things to consider bringing when you come to the hospital to have your baby. We will supply your basic needs.
For labor
- Comfortable clothes
- Your own pillows with distinctive pillowcases
- Slip-on shoes or slippers
- Warm socks you can throw away if soiled
- Toiletries, toothbrush, etc.
- Massage lotion
- Aromatherapy (no candles or light rings)
- Hair ties or barrettes
- Music. A variety of upbeat as well as slow and relaxing is best
- IPod or CD player
- Sports bra, bathing suit top or T-shirt for tub, if desired
- Bathing suit for partner if he/she gets in the tub
- Lip balm
- Tums or another antacid if you use them
- Massage tools if you have one you like
- Focal point such as pictures, flowers, stuffed animal, etc.
- Snacks for your partner
- Sport drinks, teas, frozen fruit bars, snacks for energy
- Prepaid calling card (Cell phones can’t be used in the hospital)
- Your baby book, journal
- Games, cards, books, magazines
- Camera
For you
- Several pairs of clean underwear
- Sanitary pads (hospital provides some also)
- Robe
- Nursing bra
- Change of clothes for hospital stay
- Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes to wear home
For baby
- Car seat
- Outfit to wear home (include undershirt, socks and cap)
- Receiving blanket
