Visit 9: Family-Centered Birthing
If you are having your first baby and your contractions have been present for at least two hours, are becoming increasingly stronger and are less than five minutes apart, you should call the OB provider on-call. If you have a bloody show like a period or heavier, have broken your water, have nausea and vomiting, and/or rectal pressure, you should call immediately.
To reach the OB provider on-call, call 354-6640 and choose the prompt "If you are in labor." You will be connected to a nurse in the Hubbard Center for Women's Health. If you are calling after 5 p.m. or on a weekend, call 354-5400 and ask the operator for the OB provider on-call. She will ask if you are in labor. It is important to say yes even if you are unsure. The provider will know to call you back right away and help you to decide when to come in.
