Prepare for Your Hospital Stay

Your comfort is our first concern. Although the Medical Center provides all the basic necessities, we urge that you give some thought to what to bring and what not to bring with you before coming to the hospital.

If you have an Advance Directive (Living Will and/or Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare), please bring the documents with you so that a copy can be placed in your medical record. If you have not completed an Advance Directive, we will provide you with these documents at the time of admission for your consideration and to discuss with your family and physician.

Please do not bring large sums of money, jewelry, bank books or other valuables. For reasons of safety, plug-in electrical devices, such as radios and electric razors are not permitted; however, battery-operated devices are permitted.

You will need to bring information about your hospitalization insurance and insurance cards, such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, to facilitate your financial arrangements and to avoid delays. Most insurance plans require pre-certification, so check with your employer or insurer to be sure all precertification requirements have been met.

If you are going to have surgery, please refer to the "Instructions for Patients Preparing for Surgery" booklet you received from your surgeon or visit or Prepare for Your Surgery section.
