Fit but fat: A myth?

arm holding weightYou may think that without high blood pressure, diabetes or other metabolic issues, people can remain healthy despite being obese. However, a recent study of more than 61,000 people published in the Annals of Internal Medicine dispels that myth. Those who were metabolically healthy but obese still had a 24 percent greater risk for heart attack, stroke and death after 10 years than metabolically healthy normal-weight individuals.

This study suggests that there’s no healthy pattern of increased weight. If you’re overweight or obese, focus on improving your health through a balanced diet and regular exercise.
