Managing Flu Symptoms
If you have the flu or flu-like symptoms it's important to follow the steps below for recovery:
- Stay at home and rest.
- Wash your hands frequently and avoid close contact with other people.
- Drink plenty of water and other clear liquids to prevent dehydration.
- Unless you've been advised otherwise due to another health condition, treat fever, cough or body aches with over-the-counter medications.
- If you are pregnant, get very sick (significant or worsening shortness of breath, persistent or worsening fever, a worsening cough or increase in sputum production, or chest discomfort with breathing), or have a medical condition that puts you at risk of flu complications (for example: chronic lung disease, such as emphysema or asthma, a compromised immune system, significant heart disease), call your doctor. You may need an antiviral medicine to treat the flu.
