Breathe New Hampshire recently recognized Mary Ann Riley, RRT with the distinguished Robert Kerr award during their 2013 Night of Thanks, an event to celebrate accomplishments, inspire others to preserve lung health, and recognize those who have championed BreatheNH causes over the past year. The annual Robert Kerr recognition is awarded to an individual who has consistently demonstrated a selfless professional or personal commitment to furthering lung health in the New Hampshire. Past recipients include Governor Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Judd Gregg, and numerous physicians, nurses and health professionals.

Mary Ann Riley, RRT, is the primary clinician and manager of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (CMC/DHK).  She is dedicated to patients impacted by diseases like asthma, COPD, and lung cancer and gathers outcome data for each patient, demonstrating physical benefits and quality of life improvements. She has received numerous letters of commendation and appreciation from her program graduates and helps to plan an annual trip for program attendees, graduates and their families on BreatheNH’s Eager Breather Fresh Air Cruise on Lake Winnipesaukee. In addition, she is certified as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist and has worked with the CMC/DHK program Medical Director to establish smoking cessation education offerings for all inpatients that use tobacco.

Mary Ann is credited with growing the busy CMC/DHK pulmonary rehabilitation services into a highly respected program which is modeled by facilities across the State and New England. The program’s forms, templates, policies, and procedures, have been cited in pulmonary textbooks, in addition to published research in the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal. She is a member of the BreatheNH’s Lung Health Awareness Team and stays engaged with legislation activities that may impact patients. She gives selflessly to the benefit of her patients and the larger community.
