Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene Physician Earns Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene is pleased to announce that Lisa Leinau, MD has earned Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Leinau is a Geriatrician at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene. She is also Assistant Medical Director for Hospice at Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services in Keene. She joins more than 2,800 fellow physicians in the nation to have achieved such certification.
Hospice and Palliative Medicine is the medical discipline devoted to achieving the best possible quality of life for the patient and family throughout the course of a life-threatening illness through the relief of suffering and the control of symptoms. The Hospice and Palliative team helps the patient and family face the prospect of death assured that comfort will be a priority, values and decisions will be respected, spiritual and psychosocial needs will be addressed, and practical support will be available.
Eligibility requirements for certification are significant, including certification in a major specialty, at least two years of medical practice following residency, having worked as a member of an interdisciplinary team for at least two years and having directly participated in the active care of at least fifty terminally ill patients in the preceding three years. In addition, applicants must have completed specialty fellowship training in Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Leinau is Board Certified in Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine in addition to Hospice and Palliative Care. She completed fellowships in three programs at Yale School of Medicine: Geriatrics, Nephrology, and in research with the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. Dr. Leinau served as chief medical resident at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where she also completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine. She is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School, Bryn Mawr College’s post-baccalaureate premedical program, and Williams College.
