February 15, 2013
An anniversary reception to celebrate Cheshire Medical Center’s 40th year at our Court Street location will be held on Friday, February 22 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm in the Auditorium at 580-90 Court Street in Keene.
We invite everyone to join us in celebrating and in sharing memories of this exciting time in our community’s history. Mayor Kendall Lane will offer a proclamation and light refreshments will be served. Reflections from retirees and staff will also be shared. Please RSVP to 354-5454 x2312.
On February 23, 1973, the newly-built Cheshire Hospital was dedicated, marking a new chapter in health care for the Monadnock Region, leaving Elliot Community Hospital, Keene’s first hospital on Main Street, for the state-of-the-art medical facility at 580 Court Street. The new hospital was made possible only by the generosity and community-mindedness of individuals and businesses, most notably, Edward J. Kingsbury and his family, who donated their former home and property for the expressed intent of building a new medical facility. Additionally, thousands of contributors pledged over $2.275 million to assist with the project, far exceeding the original campaign goal of $1.5 million. The MacMillin Company, Inc. of Keene was the builder, and The Cannon Partnership of Niagara Falls and Buffalo, NY, provided architect and engineering services.
As Cheshire Medical Center commemorates 40 years on Court Street, the interwoven connection between the nonprofit hospital and the community served is also celebrated. Four decades mark great progress and a continued commitment to the highest quality of medical care for patients throughout Cheshire County.
