Tobacco Free Coalition Hosts Motivational Speaker for Youth in Conjunction with Butt Swap
October 30, 2012
The Cheshire Coalition for Tobacco Free Communities of Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene will mark its 15th anniversary with its Annual Butt Swap, a chance for tobacco users to exchange their tobacco products for a week's worth of nicotine patches in preparation for the Great American Smoke-Out!
To participate in the Butt Swap, bring your tobacco to the Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene central lobby the evening of November 14 between 6:00 and 9:00 PM or the morning of November 15 (Great American Smoke-Out Day) between 6:00 and 9:00 AM.
In addition to the Annual Butt Swap, this year the Coalition will partner with the Monadnock Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coalition ( MADAC) to present Josh Shipp, a motivational speaker for youth. Host of the television show "Jump Shipp" and advice correspondent for MTV, Josh Shipp understands how teens today feel caught in a "perfect storm" of pressure, temptation and unrealistic media imagery. With his frequently hilarious, rapid-fire delivery, laced with deceptively acute insight, he has established an international reputation as a teen behavior expert who can get through to any teen. Join us at the Keene Middle School Auditorium on November 15 at 7:00 p.m. for this inspirational, free event. For information, call (603) 354-6513.
The Great American Smokeout is the day that the American Cancer Society encourages tobacco users to make a plan to quit, or to plan to quit for the day. By doing so, tobacco users will be taking an important step toward a healthier life - one that can lead to reducing cancer risk. Quitting is not easy, but it can be done. To have the best chance of quitting successfully, you need to know what challenges you may face, what your options are, and where to go for help.
The Cheshire Coalition for Tobacco Free Communities offers free support for anyone who wants to stop using tobacco through consultations, monthly support groups and informational sessions throughout the region. For more information about resources for finding freedom from tobacco, call (603) 354-6513.
