Ground Breaking Technology Facilitates New Linear Accelerator Installation at CMC/DHK
September 19, 2012
Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene's linear accelerator has the highest utilization rate in the state of New Hampshire and provides treatment to many cancer patients close to home. Because of the critical importance of this technology and service in our region, a planned replacement to the new Varian TrueBeam(TM) linear accelerator will occur over the next few months. During the changeover, we will have a temporary facility and linear accelerator to treat our patients who would otherwise need to travel to Lebanon, Concord, Nashua, or beyond to receive scheduled services.
The Temporary Radiotherapy Vault was delivered on Saturday, September 15, 2012 and is now being installed. It will provide continuity for treatment of cancer patients while the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center Kingsbury Pavilion at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene replaces and upgrades its radiation treatment technology. Cheshire Medical Center is working with RAD Technology Medical Services LLC, to provide the temporary linear accelerator.
"The planned replacement of this equipment is important to ensure uninterrupted care for the cancer center patients that rely on us for their radiation treatments," shares Jennifer Michelson, RN, BS, Director of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center Kingsbury Pavilion at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene. "We look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality care for our patients, close to home."
