Shweta Gupta, MD Joins CMC/DHK Department of Pulmonary Medicine
August 06, 2012
Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (CMC/DHK) welcomes Shweta Gupta, MD, to our Department of Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Gupta diagnoses and treats patients with diseases and conditions of the chest such as pneumonia, asthma, tuberculosis, emphysema and other complex chest infections. Pulmonology is closely related to Critical Care medicine when dealing with patients that require breathing assistance such as mechanical ventilation. As a result, many Pulmonologists become certified to practice Critical Care in addition to Pulmonary Medicine.
Dr. Gupta applies her Pulmonary medical expertise in the prescription of medications which are an important treatment of most Pulmonary diseases, taken either by inhalation or in oral form (antibiotics). The usage of inhalers is a common example in the treatment of inflammatory lung conditions such as asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Oxygen therapy is often necessary in severe respiratory disease such as emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis (generally known as a scarring of the lungs which affects breathing). Dr. Gupta works with other medical professionals guiding patients through Pulmonary Rehabilitation in addition to medications, to help individuals reach optimal health and breathing capacity.
Dr. Gupta is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Pulmonary Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and has completed additional education and training to meet the requirements to take the exam to acquire Board Certification in Critical Care (Intensivist) Medicine. Dr. Gupta earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, Lok Nayak and G.B. Pant Hospitals, New Delhi, India, and completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship from Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA. She received several awards for her medical research and scholastic achievements in India and in the United States. Dr. Gupta is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Delhi Medical Council in India.
