Ivar Frithsen, MD, Joins Department of Hospital Medicine

Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (CMC/DHK) welcomes Ivar Frithsen, MD, to our medical staff as a Hospitalist. In this role, Dr. Frithsen practices medicine in the hospital, overseeing patient care from admission to discharge, working collaboratively with each patient's primary care physician.
Prior to joining CMC/DHK, Dr. Frithsen worked as Medical Director in the South Carolina Agromedicine Program, promoting the occupational and environmental health and safety of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries communities through research, education, and outreach. He also served as an assistant professor of Family Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. In that role he authored several publications in peer-reviewed medical journals on a variety of topics. He is a member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of the South Carolina Medical Association and a reviewer for the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine as well as several other medical journals.
As a hospital-based specialist at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene, Dr. Frithsen works with other medical practitioners and staff members, providing care in a Medical Home Team, helping patients become active participants in their health and well-being. The Medical Home Team integrates all aspects of a person's preventive, acute, and chronic care, offering patients comfort, convenience, and optimal health throughout their lifetimes. CMC/DHK implemented this Medical Home model two years ago as a component of the healthiest community initiative in order to help prevent and manage chronic conditions.
Dr. Frithsen is Board Certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. He completed a Family Medicine Clinical Research Fellowship with an emphasis on Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research at the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, SC, and served his residency at Trident Family Medicine Residency Program in Charleston. Dr. Frithsen earned his Doctorate of Medicine and Master of Medical Science at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with a Biochemistry Minor from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO.
