Hospital Stairway Mural Project Underway
May 29, 2012
An artistic transformation to inspire visitors and employees alike to choose the stairs.
Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene's Employee Wellness Program is excited to announce that the South stairwell of the hospital building is undergoing a beautiful transformation to feature a colorful, multi-level, Monadnock-themed mural. Visitors and employees are encouraged to visit, walk and enjoy the stairwell which will feature a progression of perspective from a ground floor cave, to wildlife scenes and ascension into the skies when reaching the final fifth floor landing.
Funding from Cheshire County HEAL and donations of time and talent by local artists have made this project possible and an invitation is extended to staff and community members to donate their time and talent to help complete the painting. To participate in this inspiring project or for more information, please contact Jennifer Begley, Worksite Wellness Program Manager: (603) 354-5454 Ext. 3801.
An important motivator in encouraging people to take the stairs is making stairwells a more inviting place to be. The Take the Stairs campaign has reminders and prompts placed throughout the building encouraging the use of the stairs. The belief is that by pairing reminders along with the new look and feel of the stairwell, employees and visitors will choose the stairs more often.
The campaign to 'Take the Stairs' is one of the many ways CMC/D-HK and the Vision 2020 initiative encourages healthy behaviors for employees and the larger community. Other employee wellness activities include biometric screenings for employees to 'know their numbers' (cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, etc), multiple on-site wellness, fitness classes and walking path, online tools and resources for increasing physical fitness, reducing stress, and managing a healthy weight, and food labeling in the cafeteria so visitors and employees have information to make healthy choices.
