Janet Aug, OD Earns Certification in Optometry
March 15, 2012
Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene is pleased to announce that Janet Aug, OD, was one of the first optometrists in the nation, and one of only three in the state of New Hampshire, to become board certified by the American Board of Optometry (ABO).
To be eligible to take the board exam, Dr. Aug had to complete a series of rigorous post-graduate activities. She then passed a challenging computer based examination on issues spanning the scope of practice of optometry. This achievement earned Dr. Aug the title of Diplomate, American Board of Optometry.
Dr. Aug has also enrolled in the ABO's Maintenance of Certification program which is a ten-year process designed to allow doctors of optometry to demonstrate their dedication by keeping current in the field of optometry and delivering quality patient care.
"We extend congratulations to the group of optometrists who have taken the first step in demonstrating their commitment to lifelong learning," said Paul C. Ajamian, OD, ABO chairman of the board.
Doctors of optometry (ODs) are health care professionals for the eye. Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat, and manage eye diseases, injuries, and disorders. They also identify related health conditions affecting the eye.
